Station 28 Member Receives Scholarship
pThe Union Fire Association congratulates Firefighter Whitney Chestnut on receiving the Main Line Chamber of Commerce Volunteer FirefighterEMT Scholarship.nbsp 23 firefighters fromnbsp14nbspMain Linenbspfire companies receivednbspscholarships. The cumulative volunteer service provided by these young firefighters is more than 80 years Most of them are working going to school and committed to serving as a volunteer firefighter with their local fire company. Over 70 of the award recipients have a family member who is also a firefighter. It is truly an honor to present these outstanding young firefighters and EMTs with 1000 scholarship award towards their college education.ppThe Volunteer FirefighterEMT Scholarship program began in 2006 with 6000. In 2007 this program awarded 14500. The increase in 2008 awards to 23000 is due to a fundraiser hosted by Turnaround Management Association TMA to honor the memory of Lower Merion firefighter Thomas J. Hays. With generous community support the Volunteer FirefighterEMT Scholarship program will continue to grow and provide support recognition and honor to the young firefighters serving our communities.ppThe Volunteer FirefighterEMT Scholarship Program is part of a special project initiated by The Foundation to increase public awareness of the acute need to support retain and recognize volunteer firefighters and EMTs on the Main Line.
